To clean the air in a building a Living Filter utilizes a wide variety and number of tropical plants and a misting system that imitates the rainfall in a rainforest.
The Living Filter system is particularly efficient in eliminating charged particles from the air which are know to cause respiratory diseases.

Wow! Very timely. I just finished writing a literature review on “The role
of acclimatization in establishment of foliage plants for use in interior
settings” for uni yesterday. Green roofs, walls and facades are very “in”
at the moment. I sort of made the point that maybe it might be easier to
maintain interior plantscapes (not always, but sometimes). Growing plants
for interiors was pretty popular in the 1970s and 1980s, so now it would be
quite “retro” and therefore uber trendy, would it not? Alright now I am
being a little cheeky, but I am Australian! :)

Check out this living filter idea from Sweden – use plants to filter indoor
air in buildings.

Amazing Video~

Dylan Nickelson says:

C’mon, that living filter in the car dealership (1:53) is greenwashing.
It’s the size of a large fish tank and the dealership building is huge.

Sure, indoor plants can convert carbon dioxide into oxygen, but the idea
that plants ‘filter’ air beyond that seems to verge on BS. Any research to
back up the claims?

Viola Frazier says:

Absolutely! Just need to keep the cat away! Any ideas? I have plants in
every window ….She actually ate the off-growth of my spider plant!

Angelina Degelder says:

Anyone know of instructions how to make one of these? Sweden’s a little
far from Canada!

Excellent video EXCEPT…..maybe it’s just me not comprehending HOW this
can work. If the plants are in a enclosed container ~ as the video shows
(glass “boxes”)…..seems the volume of air being filtered “through” (?)
would be of an insignificant amount to effect the air circulating in the
space (?)

Nite Miller says:

It would be great to have some instructions on how to build it oneself…
